Dawn M. Renaudette

Municipal Light Board Ward 3 Incumbent

Name: Dawn Renaudette

Address: 106 Ridgeway St.

Occupation: Masters Prepared Registered Nurse, Director of Quality and Education at a Visiting Nurse and Hospice agency

What experience do you bring to this position?

In my current role I am responsible for managing and updating policies to reflect regulations set by our governing bodies. I participate in the budgeting process and understand its impact on operations. I am also responsible for customer satisfaction. This experience translates to the MLB role as it is responsible for establishing direction for the utility through policy and is accountable to the DPU. I feel that I am able to take the skill of being financially responsible and meeting the needs of the consumer and apply it to the board position. Since being selected to fulfill the remainder of the MLB term in May, I have taken opportunities to tour the G&E operations sites and learn about the purchasing, transportation, and delivery of gas and electricity in our community.

Why is having a municipal utility an asset to the city?

We are extremely lucky to have a utility company that is a department of the city. As we are not for profit, there is no push to make a profit for investors. This allows for lower rates for the customers as well as give back to the community that we serve. This independence also allows for greater opportunity for innovation and the ability to easily create and implement programs for the community.  The G&E services a smaller number of customers and in a limited geographic area which allows for better, faster customer service than an investor owned utility company.

Why should residents vote for you?

I wanted to get more involved in my community. When I applied for the open position on the MLB in April, I had already attended meetings. I reached out and met with current commissioners to ask questions and understand the role and responsibilities. I felt that I would be a good fit for this position. Over the last 6 months I have learned so much about our G&E. I understand what an asset it is. I have taken my position seriously and am just trying to make the most informed decisions in order to benefit both my ward and the community as a whole. I believe that this department, along with other departments of the city, can respectfully work together to benefit our community.
