Donald E. Clowes

WESTFIELD – Donald E. Clowes, 87, (1936-2023) passed away on Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Springfield to the late Dorothy (Saunders) and Ernest Clowes, Jr. and was a 1955 graduate of Westfield High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1957-1959 aboard the U.S.S. Chambers. In 1965 he graduated after serving a four-year toolmaker apprenticeship with the Springfield Armory. Donald received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1976 from Western New England University in Business Administration. He continued his service in the United States Navy Reserves in the SeaBees until 1990 when he retired. He was employed as an engineer, quality control and toolmaker for Precision Tool, Advance Manufacturing and as an inspector for Phoenix Manufacturing. Donald was a 50-year member and past chaplain for Mt. Moriah Lodge of Masons in Westfield, Scottish and Yorks Rites, and Melha Shriners in the Legion of Honor Unit, marching in many parades to raise money for Shriners Hospital. He loved the Red Sox, playing golf and car racing.

Sadly, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marjorie S. (Downs) Clowes, and is survived by his loving daughter, Karen Clowes-Pisano and her partner, Richard Lind of Westfield, Jeffrey Davis (Barbara and Calyx) of Boston; stepdaughter, Patti Davis and her daughters Caroline and Sarah Wilson of New York, his sister, Judy A. Clowes-Gamache of Westfield, and her children, Lisa Oleksak Sullivan of Westfield, Robert Oleksak of Westfield, Linda (Oleksak) Hall of Southwick, and predeceased, Sheila (Oleksak) Paul of Westfield.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 6th, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Elder Grey Meeting House, 346 Chadbourne’s Ridge Rd., North Waterboro, Maine, followed by burial with Military Honors across the street in Elder Grey Cemetery.
