DPW announces leaf collection plan

CASEY BERUBE

WESTFIELD- The Westfield Department of Public Works will begin fall leaf pickup on Saturday, Nov. 10 for Westfield residents.

Casey Berube, Deputy Superintendent of the DPW, says that leaves should go in the appropriate bags and be placed curbside, but not too close to one’s trash bins.

Berube did not give an end date for the pickup, as inclement weather and upcoming holidays may slow progress down. The DPW requests that residents take the proper steps to protect the paper bags in the event of rain or possibly snow.

It is also emphasized by the DPW that residents take care to ensure that only leaves are placed in the bags and no foreign objects such as rocks or trash are mixed in with them as the leaves will be composted.

“The collections will likely be done on residents regularly scheduled trash days,” says Berube, adding that residents should be prepared for their leaves to be on the curb for the entire collection period.

“We are requesting that residents be patient,” he says.
