Edward J. Mirek, Sr.

GLASTONBURY, CT – Edward J. Mirek Sr., 90, beloved husband of Virginia (Carey) Mirek, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2012 after a brief illness with his family by his side. He was born and raised in Windsor to the late Frank and Sadie (Bartus) Mirek.
Ed met the love of his life, Virginia, at the Hartford Skating Palace. They were married New Years Day in 1944 while he was proudly serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Cushman Industries on Windsor Street in Hartford for 45 years retiring in 1985, but not for long. He went on to work for Forrest Machine in Rocky Hill for another 10 years. His greatest passion was his family. He instilled his values and strong work ethic into his children and grandchildren. He was a loving caring husband who was devoted to his wife for their 68 year marriage. As Virginia’s health declined, Ed could be found by her side every day. Ed was always proud of his family, who will dearly miss him.
Besides his wife, Virginia Ed leaves his 5 children; Judy Zipfel and her husband Carl Jr. of Lansdale, PA, and their children Patty, Joey, and Nancy, Ed Jr. and his wife Ginger of East Hartford, and their children Katie, Beth, and Emily, Gary and his wife Kathy of Westfield, MA and their children Brian and Kelly, Lynn Stearns and her husband Edward of Manchester, and their children Anne and Kim, Jim and his wife Diane of Glastonbury, and their children Allie, David, and Kelly. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanne Dillon of Windsor, and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by 4 sisters and 2 brothers. The family would like to thank the staff at Glastonbury Health Care Center for their compassion and excellent care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 2nd, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Road, East Hartford, 06118. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, East Hartford. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, August 1st, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tpk., Glastonbury, CT 06033.
