Edwin F. Harrington

WESTFIELD: Edwin F. Harrington, 83, (1936-2016) passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Baystate Noble Hospital. He was born in Westfield, MA to the late Edwin E. and Bertha F. (Farnham) Harrington. Ed was a 1950 graduate of Westfield High School, a graduate of Westfield State Teachers College with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1954 and a Master’s Degree in 1960 and from Springfield College in 1970 with a CAGS. He was employed by Southwick Consolidated School as a math teacher and became the Principal in 1958. From 1968-1972 he was the Assistant Superintendent of Schools at Gateway Regional School District. He was the Superintendent of Pioneer Valley Regional School from 1972-1987. He also served in the Massachusetts Department of Education from 1988-1991 which later became a springboard to a diversified career as a School Facilities Consultant to many school systems, architectural firms, building and school committees. He contributed to the planning, construction and renovation of 80 school buildings across the state. He was very active in many professional associations as well as affiliated with Westfield State University. Ed was an avid golfer, bicyclist and cross-country skier, until he died. Edwin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine A. (Donoghue) Harrington in Southwick, his three children, Ann M. Harrington and her husband, Gregory Griffin of Reno, NV, Susan Davies and her husband Kevin of Washington, D.C. and Paul E. Harrington and his wife Nancy T. Harrington of Scituate, his brother Donald B. Harrington and his wife, Maritza of Florida. He also leaves five grandchildren, Kyle Davies, Fiona Davies, and Elizabeth, Grace and Daniel Harrington, as well as his nieces Maureen Morin, Eileen Clark, Michele Harrington, and nephews Guy Harrington and Timothy Donoghue and sister-in-law Kathleen Donoghue.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11AM in First Congregational Church, 18 Broad St. Westfield, MA. Burial will be held in Pine Hill Cemetery, Western Ave., Westfield at 1:30PM.
