Suspicious package found outside Southwick Town Hall

A maintenance worker inside the building found the 6 by 12 package wrapped in duct tape with no visible address.

Chief Russ Anderson of the Southwick Fire Department took action right away in the situation. The Southwick Police also arrived to the scene.

Anderson followed his standard protocol and ordered a Tier I Hazmat and had the bomb squad check out the package. The bomb squad team arrived to the scene just minutes after 6:30 p.m.

“They came in and x-rayed the device, finding nothing of harm or danger,” said Anderson.

It was determined that the package ended up being a piece of duct work that had blown off part of the building in the past and the situation was taken care of just past 7 p.m.

Anderson explained the official outcome of the suspicious package.

“They came, rendered it, found it was harmless, returned the scene to us and everybody goes home,” said Anderson.
