WILBRAHAM – Liz Mastrio scored the game-winning goal with 24 minutes left to lift Minnechaug past Westfield in a field hockey contest, 1-0.
Westfield dominated the first half of play – the Bombers attempted more than a dozen shots on net – but failed to connect.
“Our forwards gave it a good run,” Westfield coach Karen Gomez said, “but the shots only came close.”
Liz Marcyoniak, Lexi Minicucci, and Ashlee Owen each had shots just fall short.
“We gave it a good effort,” Gomez said. “We need to work on putting two halves of field hockey together. Hopefully we can do that.”
Westfield goalie Karly Mastello made nine shots in net. Minnechaug’s goalkeeper, Katie Patterson finished with 14 saves.
