Fire destroys shed in Granville

GRANVILLE – At approximately 12:40 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Granville Fire Department responded to a fire in a detached shed at a residence on Silver Street.

The structure was estimated to be about 20 by 30 feet in size and firefighters used an engine and a tanker to supply 2,000 gallons of water to extinguish the flames. The shed was a total loss, but the fire never reached the home and there were no injuries involved.

According to Tim Rickis, a spokesperson for the Granville Fire Department, high winds was the biggest issue.

“That was the primary exposure that we had to worry about,” said Rickis. “We got it out quickly and it didn’t spread.”

Granville Fire personnel were all back to the station at around 2:30 a.m.

The destroyed shed contained the homeowner’s outdoor wood furnace which was their primary source for home heating. The pipes for the furnace would go through the ground and to the house.

Rickis also noted that residents in town are working on helping the homeowners possess a secondary source of heat by getting their oil furnace re-connected.
