Frances Josephine Johnson

Frances Josephine Johnson, 91, peacefully passed away on September 10, 2022.

Frances was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Martin Henry Burns and Mary Josephine Burns.

She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Raymond N. Johnson, her grandson Kyle Johnson and her brother-in-law Allen Johnson. She was also predeceased by her in-laws Helen and Helge Johnson whom she loved dearly.

She was a longtime resident of Southwick, MA, and Amelia Island, FL before moving to Niskayuna, NY after the death of her husband.

Frances received her BA from American International College, where she met her favorite Army veteran Raymond. She went on to get her Master of Education Degree from Westfield State College. She was a Special Needs teacher in the Agawam School District for 40 years, retiring in 2001.

She is survived by three sons and a brother: Norman Johnson, Martin Johnson and wife Laura, Brian Johnson and wife Catherine, and her brother John Burns and wife Sally. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Courtney Johnson (partner Claude), Keith Johnson (Kristen), Alex Johnson (Christie), Jake Johnson (partner Paula), Martha Johnson (Courtney Brown), and Joseph Johnson (fiancée Grace); her sister-in-law Elisabeth Johnson, one nephew and many nieces. She was great-grandmother to Lucas Johnson and Julian Johnson.

Frances was passionate about education, continuing her studies far beyond her Master’s Degree. She loved traveling, reading, walking on the beach and dancing with her one and only, Raymond.

The family would like to thank Kingsway Assisted Living and Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, NY, for the wonderful care and love Frances received during her last years.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 8, 2022, in the New Southwick Cemetery, College Highway, Southwick, MA. There are no calling hours. Avalon Life Celebration Center & Cremation Services, LLC, 691 College Hwy, Southwick, MA is assisting the family with arrangements.
