SOUTHWICK – Weekly meal kits, which include five days of breakfasts and lunches, are being offered to Southwick-Tolland-Granville School District students free of charge.
The new program began this week.
Superintendent Jennifer Willard said there were 195 families that requested the meals this week, although Director of Finance and Operations Stephen Presnal noted that 45 families did not pick up their meals and should contact food services to arrange pickup.
“It was great to see – some families received a half-gallon of milk, and boxes of cereal, fresh fruits and veggies, chicken alfredo with heating instructions . . .” said Willard.
Families should sign-up at stgrsd.org by 10 a.m. Friday for pickup the following Tuesday.
“It is free to all families in the district,” Willard said.
Each meal order includes breakfast and lunch for one student for five days, the equivalent of a week’s worth of meals. Meal kits will be available for pickup on Tuesday evenings, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Cafeteria entrance at Southwick Regional School student parking lot. Kits will contain information about storage and preparation.
This past week’s menu included assorted cereal for breakfast each day, fruit and milk. Lunches included a chicken patty sandwich with carrots and hummus, cheeseburger with sweet potato fries, chicken alfredo with broccoli and personal cheese pizza with baked cauliflower tempura.
Free meals are available to all students during the 2021/2021 school year, whether in-person or learning remotely, regardless of financial means. If you have questions about accessing school meals, contact the school nutrition department at 413-569-6870 or via email at [email protected].
Presnal stressed that the daily curbside lunch pickup is still being offered.
