Friends seek gift basket donations

SOUTHWICK – The Friends of the Southwick Public Library is seeking donations of gift baskets for its second annual Holiday Basket Raffle.
Last year, the raffle raised more than $500. Organizer Pat McMahon hopes to exceed that number this year and make the raffle a tradition.
“I actually got this idea from the friends group at the Agawam Library,” said McMahon. “They have done this successfully for years.”
Themed baskets will be raffled for $1 per chance, or $5 for six chances. Participants will place their ticket in a container for a specific basket or baskets.
“The baskets can be any theme,” said McMahon. Last year’s included a quilting basket and a candy basket.”
Basket ideas include spa days, golf outings, puzzles and games, movie nights, and more. McMahon said last year just one business donation was made from Green Mountain Coffee but she hopes other businesses and people who sell items such as cosmetics and home products will donate this year and promote their own business while supporting the library.
The raffle will take place Dec. 11 during the Friends’ meeting. Winners do not have to be present.
Gift baskets must be delivered to the library by Nov. 8 and will be on display and available for tickets through the drawing date.
The Friends of the Southwick Public Library provides funds for library programs for children and adults, such as guest speakers, performers and workshops.
“We also provide museum passes that Friends members can borrow from the library,” McMahon said.
To become a Friend costs just $5 for an individual. Another benefit of the group is exclusive advanced viewings of the annual Friends book sale.
