WESTFIELD – Westfield Gas & Electric General Manager Dan Howard received an unexpected honor following the roundtable meeting with Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Governor Karyn Polito on the last mile broadband effort in the hilltowns, which is being assisted by the expertise of G&E.

The group left the meeting for a planned photo op with the Governor, Lt. Governor and Whip City Fiber employees in the warehouse. Gov. Baker then went up to speak, and asked Howard to come forward for a presentation.

“On behalf of the Lt. Governor and me, in recognition of the work you’ve done for 34 years on behalf of Westfield Gas & Electric,” Baker said, handing him a citation from the Commonwealth.

Howard said he thought something was up when he saw that his family was there.

“I couldn’t have done this without all of you,” he said, waving his hand before the Whip City Fiber employees, and calling them “a great team, a talented team, a dedicated team.” His staff responded with applause.

Last month, Howard announced that he will be retiring in November, after nine years as general manager, and a total of 34 years with Westfield Gas & Electric.
