Granville raising funds for trip

GRANVILLE – The eighth grade class trip has become a rite of passengers for students leaving middle school and entering high school.
At Granville Village School, students were offered a choice of destinations this year, including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Cape Cod. By majority vote, the eighth grade will be traveling to D.C. this May for four days.
To help defray costs, parents have organized several fundraisers, including Soup-A-Loosa tomorrow night.
The sixth annual event will feature a variety of homemade soups, including clam chowder, chicken corn chowder, tomato basil and Italian wedding soup.
“The students are cooking themselves, with parental supervision,” said parent Tina Jensen.
Soup-A-Loosa takes place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Granville Village School. The meal includes the soup of your choice with salad, bread, a beverage and dessert for $7 for adults. Children age 5-12 are $4 and children under five are free.
Jensen said the class is excited about the trip, especially because they received permission to visit the White House.
“It’s my understanding that not everyone gets to do that,” said Jensen.
The class will travel by train and tour the State House as well as other historical landmarks.
The class of 28 students is the largest class at the school. Parents have also organized a grinder sale to raise funds. Grinders must be pre-ordered and picked up at the school March 9. Jensen said there is a choice of meatball or ham and cheese, and orders may be placed tomorrow night at Soup-A-Loosa.
The class is hosting a fundraising event May 5 featuring a car wash, bake sale, and document shredding event.
In addition, the Granville Parents Association is raising funds for the entire school March 16 with a silent auction and raffle at Maple Corner Farm.
The adults-only event will feature donations from local residents and businesses.
Finger foods will be served. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite beverage. For more information or to reserve a table, call (413)537-9919 or email [email protected].
