WESTFIELD – Putnam put together a 19-hit attack to overwhelm Westfield Voc-Tech 24-14 in a late morning/early afternoon contest Friday at Whitney Field in Westfield.
Voc-Tech’s Katie Nesmelova (3-for-5, 3 runs scored) and Cheyenne Slack (4-for-5, 3 runs) were strong at the plate. Keisha DeJesus pitched three solid innings of relief, striking out four and walking three.
Putnam improved to 5-2; Voc-Tech fell to 0-5.

Schwartz, WHS thwart Brownies
Westfield 3, Agawam 2
Ari Schwartz pitched six innings of relief to help Westfield thwart Agawam Friday. Schwartz allowed two runs, struck out three batters and walked four.
Chris Sullivan and Anthony Clark each went 2-for-3, and drove in one run apiece for Westfield. Bombers’ Colin Dunn also collected a hit.

Tigers win wild one
Westfield Voc-Tech 12, Smith Voke 10 (8 inn.)
Voc-Tech yielded five runs in the first inning – fueled by two walks and three errors – but bounced back to win a wild extra-inning affair.
Nate Boulay pitched the first four innings for the Tigers, Cody Garwacki pitched innings 5-7, allowing just two runs, and Nick Clegg closed out the eighth.
Garwacki held Smith Voke scoreless over the sixth and seventh innings to pick up the victory. Clegg earned the save.
Clegg went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored; Connor Hebda went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs; Tyler French went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs; Jake Parsons was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and doubled in the game-winning run in the eighth inning, scoring pinch runner Anthony Manna from first base.

Bombers soar into tourney
Westfield def. Ludlow 25-12, 25-18, 25-13

Westfield made quick work of its road opponent, handily sweeping the Lions in three straight sets to win its ninth straight regular season contest to begin the season.
With the victory the Bombers have already qualified for the postseason with still half the regular season slate still remaining.
“It was a strong offensive effort today, and a great league win on the road,” Westfield coach Tyler Wingate said.
Ryan Bucko (15 kills, 1 ace, 4 blocks, 3 digs) and Manny Golob (13 kills, 2 aces, 1 block, 9 digs) had stellar all-around performances to lead Westfield. Bombers’ Isaiah Headley was solid with four kills, two blocks, and three digs; Nick Hall recorded five kills and one block; Eric Shilyuk finished with 27 assists, three blocks, one ace, and five digs; and, Dmitriy Doroshenko contributed 15 digs.
