HS WRAP: Tigers silence Red Raiders, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD – Katie Nesmelova, Ashley Lees, and Steffany Costa scored one goal apiece to propel the Voc-Tech girls’ soccer team to a 3-0 shutout on the road at Commerce Friday.
Nesmelova and Lees each had one assist.
Megan Illnicky and Costa combined for a shutout in net for the Tigers. They both had three saves each.
Amber Lindsay and Cathie Iglesias were instrumental in helping to shut down Commerce’s attack.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
West Springfield 3, Westfield 0
WESTFIELD – Lilia Msijchuk (20 digs), Nicki Longey (5 aces, 11 kills), and Rudi Spano (22 assists) led West Springfield to the road sweep in the Whip City, 25-18, 26-24, 26=24.
Alex Morin (8 blocks, 2 aces, 3 kills) and Kelsey Johnstone (10 assists, 5 blocks, 3 kills) played well for Westfield.

BOYS’ SOCCER
Frontier 2, Southwick 1
SOUTH DEERFIELD – Chad Parent scored in the 9th and 12th minutes to put Frontier out in front early. Southwick’s Ryan King scored on a pass from Brian Sheil in the 42nd minute. The Rams tying call was waved off due an offside call, which was disputed by the team’s coaching staff.
Frontier goalie Dylan Husted made eight saves. Patrick King finished with nine in net for Southwick.

JV RESULTS
Southwick 2, Frontier 0
Matt Daley and Ryan LeClaire scored in Southwick’s 2-0 road victory. LeClaire also had an assist. The Rams improved to 6-1.

FIELD HOCKEY
Westfield 3, South Hadley 0
SOUTH HADLEY – The JV Bombers won on the road Friday to improve to 8-1-1.
Westfield’s Miranda Boudreau scored the first goal of the game with 22:01 remaining in the first half, thanks to an assist from Grace Silva. Boudreau then connected with Alexis Shia with 8:03 left in the half.
Morgan Shia provided the Bombers with some insurance, scoring unassisted at 22:52 in the second half.
