Important Opening Dates for Westfield Public Schools

WESTFIELD – School begins less than a month from now for most students in the Westfield Public Schools. Opening day for grades 1 to 12 is Tuesday, September 4. Kindergarten and pre-school at Fort Meadow will begin on Monday, Sept. 10.  Start times have changed for elementary students for the 2018-2019 school year. Elementary school will begin fifteen minutes later at 9:15 a.m. and students will get out at 3:15 p.m., also fifteen minutes later. The Fort Meadow Early Childhood Center will continue to operate from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. There will also be no change to the high school start and end time from 7:15 a.m. – 1:56 p.m. Both the grade 5-6 Westfield Intermediate School and grade 7-8 school Westfield Middle School will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:29 p.m.
This is the first year for online registration for all students new to the district. New Student Online Registration can be done on any mobile device or computer, and should be done as soon as possible. Children must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2018 to attend kindergarten in Westfield Public Schools. Parents are encouraged to register their child for kindergarten as soon as possible at http://www.schoolsofwestfield.org/parents/registration_/2018-19_kindergarten_registration/

For English Language Learners, Highland will no longer be the only elementary site to service English learners. The district is expanding the English Learner Education (ELE) Program to include a second site in order to more efficiently serve the needs of this growing population. EL students that live in the Abner Gibbs, Munger Hill, Paper Mill, and Southampton Road regions of the city will now attend Munger Hill Elementary School. Orientation for incoming freshmen and their parents will be held at Westfield High School on Thursday, Aug. 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. During this time parents will have an opportunity to hear about available staff and services, graduation requirements, athletic requirements, and daily schedules, just to name a few. There will also be a Q&A time to answer questions. The students will receive their schedules and locker information, go on tours, identify their lockers and where their classes are and talk with upperclassmen about all things Westfield High. The orientation will culminate with an ice cream social.
The freshmen and new student cookout for Westfield Technical Academy will be Thursday, Sept. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Families are invited.
There are three dates for free pre-season physicals for high school student athletes who have not had a physical within the last year. Pre-season physicals for student athletes in any sport in Westfield High School and Westfield Technical Academy will be held at Westfield High School on Tuesday, Aug. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 23 from 8 to 12 noon, and on Tuesday, Sept. 4 (first day of school) from 2 to 4 p.m.
New teacher orientation is on August 28 at Westfield Intermediate School. The following three days, August 29, 30 and 31 are staff development days. There will be no convocation this year; instead, Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski will be going to each school to speak for one hour.
