Indoor lacrosse league set to start

WESTFIELD-Whip City Lacrosse is launching an off-season program to help boys “keep the sticks in their hands during the off-season in a fun way,” according to organizers.
Whip City Lacrosse was developed by Westfield Youth Lacrosse in the hope to use proceeds to provide equipment and scholarships for players in need of financial assistance and to promote players to try the goalie position since goalies are difficult to find, according to Melanie McNamara, treasurer and registrar for Westfield Youth Lacrosse.
“If it really takes off, we would love to help support our high school players with items they need such as field maintenance, lights and quality safety equipment and uniforms,” said McNamara.
Sean Welch, program coordinator, is conducting sign-ups for the High School Boys LAX League that starts Nov. 13 for eight Monday classes at the Roots Athletic Center, 181 Root Road. A Youth Boys LAX League will meet on Wednesdays starting Nov. 15 at the Roots Athletic Center. Spots are limited and the cost for players is $125.
For more information on the program and to sign up, contact Welch at (413) 454-5564. To reserve a team, send an email to [email protected].
“Kids not on a team can sign up as free agents,” said McNamara, noting that good sportsmanship and player development are stressed as part of the overall program. “If there is enough interest, we would also be interested in running sessions for the younger groups bantam (grades 3 and 4) and mite (grades 1 and 2).”
