AMHERST – The defending Western Massachusetts Division I baseball champs will get a chance to defend their crown.
Westfield doubled up the Hurricanes in Amherst late Tuesday night 4-2 to improve to 10-6. The Bombers, now assured of a .500 record or better, will return to the postseason where they dominated in 2013 en route to a title.
Westfield pitcher Matt Irzyk tossed a gem on the mound against Amherst. Irzyk allowed three hits, struck out nine batters, and walked three. He retired seven of the final eight batters he faced.
Chris Sullivan (2-for-3, double, triple, 3 RBIs) and Tim Donahue (2-4, RBI) led the Bombers at the plate.
Westfield returns to action Wednesday evening against Cathedral at Bullens Field. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
