James Maher

WESTFIELD – James (Jim) Maher, 78, (1947-2026) passed away on Thursday, January 1st, 2026, at Cape Fear Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. He was born in Westfield to the late John and Agnes (Anderson) Maher.

Jim received his bachelor’s degree from Westfield State College in 1968 and interned as a history teacher for the Westfield Vocational School. He went on to work as an underwriter for Aetna Insurance for 28+ years, during which time he volunteered for Junior Achievement. After leaving Aetna he then went on to work for various other insurance companies. He was a parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Westfield, where he also volunteered for many years.  He loved going to the beach, taking walks, swimming in his pool, studying history and watching all types of sports.

Sadly, James was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years Patricia A. (Orzolek) Maher on February 6th, 2022, a sister Jean Trauschke and a brother Jack Maher.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Jessica A. Baillargeon and her husband Brian of Westfield, his cherished granddaughter Rachel Baillargeon, a sister Joanne Sampson of Westfield and several nieces and nephews.

Jim’s funeral will be held on Monday, January 12th, 2026, at 9 a.m. from the Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Bartlett Street, Westfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Road, Westfield. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 11th, 2026, from 1-3 p.m. at Firtion Adams Funeral Home. www.firtionadams.com
