HUNTINGTON – A Huntington man was arrested early this morning after a state trooper came upon a dirt bike which had crashed near Route 112 in Huntington.
State police report that Trooper Donald Wilmot was on patrol in the frigid weather on Route 112 when he came upon the recent crash near County Road at 12:10 a.m.
Wilmot reports that he heard a voice in the woods and investigated a couple who had been riding on the motorcycle had been thrown from the dirt bike and tumbled down the icy embankment to the bank of the Westfield River.
Both Dakota Cornelius, 21, and Stephanie Maxwell, 22, were transported to Baystate Medical Center where no information was immediately available about Cornelius. Maxwell was admitted to the hospital and was reported to be in good condition this morning.
Wilmot, assisted by Trooper Jack Sterner, investigated the crash and found that Cornelius had not been wearing a helmet while operating under the influence of liquor without a headlight and that his license had been suspended.
Cornelius was charged with operating under the influence of liquor causing serious bodily injury, operating a recreational vehicle under the influence of liquor, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a recreational vehicle helmet violation.
