Chicopee man killed in head-on crash

WESTFIELD – A Chicopee man died Feb. 4  in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Southampton Road.
Multiple callers reported the 5:33 p.m. crash and both police and firefighters were dispatched to the accident. The first responding officers reported that an unconscious male party was trapped in a 2007 Dodge Magnum wagon and a woman was unconscious in the second vehicle, a 2009 Nissan Murano SUV.
The man, Avery Everett, 24, of 312 Beauregard Terrace, Chicopee, was found to have expired and the woman, Laura Jean Parent, 41, of 126 Union St., Westfield, was taken by ambulance to the trauma unit at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Initial witness reports indicate that the southbound Nissan Murano, operated by Parent, crossed the center line and collided head-on with the northbound Dodge Magnum operated by Everett.
Investigators from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section were notified of the crash and responded to assist officers from the Westfield Police Department’s Traffic Bureau.
Both involved vehicles were towed to the police impound yard.
Southampton Road was closed and traffic was detoured via Apremont Way during the initial phase of the investigation. The road was reopened to traffic at 11:03 p.m.
The investigation of the crash by city and State Police, assisted by investigators from the Hampden County District Attorney’s office, is ongoing.
