Janina (Sobolewska) Sadkowski

WESTFIELD: Janina (Sobolewska) Sadkowski, 88, (1930-2018) of Westfield, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 5, 2018. She was born June 23, 1930 in Osinki, Poland the sixth of seven children of the late Jozef and Stefania (Kaminska) Sobolewski. She worked as a seamstress in Poland before immigrating to the United States in December of 1965 with her husband Antoni and their three sons Wieslaw (Wes), Lech and Konrad. They settled in New Britain, CT. Ten days after arriving in the United States on the Polish ocean liner, MS Batory, their fourth son, Andrzej, was born. Janina worked at Atlantic Tool in Newington, CT as a parts polisher. In 1970 the family relocated to Westfield, MA where she has lived for the past 48 years and worked at Columbia Bicycle Manufacturing Company. Janina enjoyed socializing and had many friends in the greater Westfield-Springfield and New Britain areas. She was a longtime parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Rosary Society. For those who knew Janina best, she leaves behind a legacy of perseverance and patience, a willingness to help others in need and a trust that God in his mercy will grant her peace and everlasting life. Janina enjoyed sewing, gardening and especially cooking for family and friends. Janina is survived by her husband Antoni of 62 years; her sister Zofia Murawska of Poland; nieces Krystyna Smigiel of Westfield and Stefania Ochocimska of Ludlow; sons Wieslaw (Wes) and his wife, Jolanta of Westfield; Lech and his wife, Dorota of Chicopee; Konrad and his wife, Alicja of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Andrzej and his wife, Ewa of Podkowa Lesnia, Poland; her grandchildren, Justin, Daniel, Joanna, Benjamin, Karol, Viktoria, Jeremi, Jonasz, and Zoja; and nieces and nephews in the United States and Poland. The family would like to especially thank International Health Solutions, Trinity, Epic, and CCA nursing staff for their kind and loving care.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 9 at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St., Westfield, MA from 4-7 PM. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Friday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westfield. The family asks in lieu of flowers, to please make donations in Janina’s name to Holy Trinity Church, 335 Elm Street, Westfield, MA 01085.
