Jean A. (Tenero) Murphy

WESTFIELD: Jean A. (Tenero) Murphy, 95, (1926-2021) passed to rest with her eternal family at home on March 31, 2021 attended by her loving husband and children. She was born in Westfield to the late John and Helen (Zychowski) Tenero. Jean was employed at the Westfield Cooperative Bank for 17 years and rose to the position of Assistant Treasurer. She enjoyed traveling around the U.S., to Mexico and Canada with her friends as a young woman and later, with her husband. Jean was active in the Appalachian Mountain Club, the PTA, was a volunteer at the voting polls and canvassed her neighborhood on behalf of Catholic Charities for many years. She enthusiastically directed the adult choir at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church for over 20 years and was active in the Schoenstatt Movement there.

Jean was predeceased by her parents and four siblings, Henry Tenerowicz, Stanley Tenero, John Tenero and Helen DuBois. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, John J. Murphy, her loving children, Susan M. Moeller and her husband Jeffrey of Westfield and Stephen J. Murphy and his wife Katherine of Arlington, MA, a cherished granddaughter Madeline and a brother Ed Tenero and his wife Sally of Lisbon, CT. Jean also leaves behind a large crowd of adoring nieces and nephews (10), great-nieces and nephews (28) and great-great-nieces and nephews (10). Jean served as a wonderful, independent, adventuresome, kind, tolerant and loving role model to her entire family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 12 noon in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Rd., Westfield followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd., Westfield. Visiting hours will precede the mass from 10-11:30 AM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St., Westfield, MA 01085.
