SPRINGFIELD – Brandeis University topped Westfield State women’s volleyball, 3-0 in the season opener for both teams Friday at the Springfield Invitational Tournament. The Judges gaveled the match by tight scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 25-17.
Senior Brianna Starkey (Rockland, Mass.) led the Owls with eight kills. Westfield was bolstered by the return of senior libero Lizzie Taylor (Medfield), who missed all of last season while recovering from an injury. She had a team high 18 digs. Ally Rega (Chelmsford) set 21 assists and added three kills for Westfield (0-1). The Owls will be back in action tomorrow with games against host Springfield and Skidmore.
