June E. Henderson

 SOUTHWICK:  June Elizabeth Henderson, age 88, (1927-2016) a resident of the American Inn, died January 6, 2016. June was born in New York, New York, on May 16 1927, daughter of the late Alexander and Margaret (Diggens) Henderson. 

Although June moved to Southwick to be near family in recent years, she was a lifelong resident of Laurelton, Queens, NY. She was a graduate of the Washington School for Secretaries in New York City. 

June was employed at  Bristol Myers Lab and Bristol Meyers Squibb in the Human Resource Department. She was the editor of the company newsletter for many years.She retired in 1990 after 45 years of loyal service and relished the opportunities and friends she made there.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Valley Stream, New York. She taught Sunday school and volunteered with the church thrift   shop. June for many years sponsored children through various aid organizations, and was a dedicated correspondent and advocate. 

June was never known to miss a birthday or holiday and had a supply of greeting cards that was legendary in the family.

She enjoyed the beach; and especially her summer home in Wildwood, on Wading River, Long Island. She dearly loved cats and they were a special part of her entire life.

June is survived by her brother, A. David Henderson of Poquonock, CT and his children, Bonnie Snow and her husband Jeffrey, of Southwick, Cary Henderson and his wife Robin Sherwood, of Bloomfield, CT, David Henderson and his wife Heidi Lindberg, of Windsor, CT; a great nephew, Matthew Snow and his wife Lindsey, of Easthampton, MA; a great niece, Anne Snow of Southwick;a great nephew Daryl Dwyer and family, of South Windsor; a cousin, Barbara Vonderahe of Baldwin, NY;  her close friends of many years from Laurelton, Debbie and Gregory Rudder and their family as well as Grace Herbert, Barbara Morris and the many friends she made through the years at the American Inn.

The family will gather and receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00AM on Saturday, January 16th, 2016 in the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 624 College Highway (Highway 202/10), Southwick, with a funeral home service to follow at 11:00 AM. Her burial will be at a later date in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Astoria, Queens.
