WESTFIELD – The members of the Franklin Avenue Elementary School’s Kiwanis K-Kids Club brought some holiday cheer to residents of The Arbors assisted living community in Westfield Nov. 28.

The 40 member organization is led by faculty advisors Jean Turgeon, Julie Neuser, Brittney Peterson, Lauren Pandolfi and Alex Kelleher. More than 40 members of the club for third through fifth grade students made holiday wreaths at a recent club meeting. On Nov. 28, 30 of the children, accompanied by four faculty advisors and Kiwanis Club advisor, Geana Delisle, walked from their school to The Arbors to present the wreaths and sing carols to residents.

Many residents gathered in the facility’s common area for the wreath presentation and to hear the children sing “Jingle Bells,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” After the presentation, the children visited and serenaded some of the residents in their rooms before returning to their school.

Kiwanis K-Kids at Franklin Avenue School is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Westfield. Kiwanis K-Kids gives elementary school-age children the opportunity to develop leadership skills by planning and carrying out service projects. The Kiwanis Club of Westfield also sponsors K-Kids Clubs at Papermill and Southampton Road Schools and at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Westfield.
