KOC to host soccer tournament

WESTFIELD – As the summer winds down, the action on the pitch is beginning to heat up. Before the high school season gets underway in September across the Pioneer Valley, the youth soccer players in Westfield will have their turn Saturday with the International Soccer Challenge sponsored by the Westfield Knights of Columbus chapter.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, the Woronoco Soccer Complex on North Road will play host to the local competition that is open to boys and girls from ages 9 to 14. The annual competition features several levels of competition, ranging from local and district levels to state and regional levels. For further information, please contact either Chris White or Greg Perreault.
According to the given press release, the Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic lay organization with more than 1.8 million members, “providing members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic church, the communities, families and young people.” In 2014, the organization raised and distributed $173 million to charity and rendered 71.5 million hours of community service.
