WESTFIELD- Lewis H. Pomeroy, Sr., 80, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton after a long battle with colon cancer. He was born in Westfield to the late L. Ralph and Rachel (Harlow) Pomeroy and attended UMASS Amherst Stockbridge School of Agriculture after graduating from Westfield High School. Lewis owned and operated a Citgo Service and Gas station for many years in Westfield, before becoming a partner on L.R. Pomeroy & Sons dairy farm for over 50 years and being involved in Pomeroy Sugar House. He enjoyed working with his hands, logging, running logs through his sawmill and repairing anything mechanical. As an avid hunter, he enjoyed being outdoors as often as possible. In his younger years, he was actively involved in 4-H, enjoyed meeting new people through competitions and was recognized for writing about innovative farm technology of the time. He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley (Bartlett) Pomeroy of Westfield, his son James Pomeroy (Ivy) of Westfield, his daughter Pamela Anderson (Bruce) of Huntington, a brother Seth Pomeroy (Josephine) of Westfield, his sisters, Alma LaFrance (Albert) of Huntington and Gaye Crowe (Alan) of Westfield and two grandchildren Rachel and Randy Pomeroy. Lewis is predeceased by his son L. Harlow Pomeroy and his brother, Leon Pomeroy. A service will be held for Lewis at the Wyben Union Church, 678 Montgomery Rd., on Wednesday, April 6 at 10:00 am, and a burial will follow in Middle Farms Cemetery.
