LUDLOW – Three different Lions scored to lead Ludlow past Westfield 3-0 in an independent high school boys’ soccer game Thursday night at Lusitano Stadium.
Dhiago Dias put Ludlow on the board in the fifth minute. After that, it was a back and forth dogfight until late in the game.
With about eight minutes remaining, Ludlow’s John DosSantos scored to make it 2-0. Tansin Bolduc notched a goal for the Lions in the waning seconds with Westfield’s offense deep upfield.
Anthony Sullivan, Jeff McConkey, and Matt Butera played well for the Bombers.
Westfield goalie Ian Saltmarsh made six saves. Matt Jordan (4 saves) recorded a shutout for Ludlowl
“We played a great game,” Westfield coach Andrew Joseph said. “We showed that we’re for real this year. We’re looking forward to our next one.”
Westfield (1-1) will return to action Monday at home against Central at 4 p.m.
Tigers blank McCann
Westfield Technical Academy 6, McCann Tech 0
Westfield Technical Academy jumped out to an early on the effort of Dominic Rosario, and never looked back in Friday’s big road victory.
Rosario scored in the 10th minute, Sergiy Kabysh tallied the first of his two goals 10 minutes later, and Vitaliy Borodin scored five minutes after that as Westfield Tech took a 3-0 first-half lead.
Tigers’ Alex Stepanchuk squashed McCann Tech’s hopes for a second-half comeback when he notched a goal about 10 minutes into the second half. Kabysh and Konstantine Belyakov also scored in the final half.
Roman Tikhoncuk, Tyler Hall, Rubin Suprunchuk, and Jaisen Gomez anchored the Westfield Tech defense. Tigers’ goalie Anatoly Suprunchuk recorded six saves in net.
Freshmen boost Gators
Gateway 3, Granby 1
Anthony Palazzi scored two goals – Jayden Marge and Ben Jameson each earned one assist – and Alex Webb notched a score in Gateway’s victory. Jonathan Rooney assisted on Webb’s goal.
All three Gators’ goals were scored by freshmen.
Gateway goalies’ Shane Mastello and Brady Parker combined for six saves.
Rams clip Mustangs
Southwick 2, Monson 1
Brandon Castor and Bailey Emerson each scored to lead Southwick to the road win. Conner Geddis assisted. Rams’ goalie Nick Chambers finished with 10 saves.

Green Wave tops WHS in shootout
Abington 42, Westfield 39
The defending Division 5 Super Bowl champion Green Wave jumped out to a two-touchdown lead in the first quarter of a marathon Friday night football season opener before Westfield rallied at Memorial Field in Abington.
Abington senior Brendan Glavin rushed for three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with less than two minutes to play.
Westfield posted its first lead of the night on a 1-yard TD rush by backup quarterback Scott Walsh with 4:31 remaining in the fourth quarter. Walsh took over for starting QB Austin St. Pierre, who suffered a game-ending injury just seconds before.
Abington responded with a four-play, 57-yard drive that culminated with Glavin’s third TD, a 14-yard scamper. The Green Wave forced four straight incompletions to end the game. – Game stats courtesy of The Enterprise

Olivia Diamond (16 digs, 3 aces), Taylor Keiderlijo (7 kills, 6 aces), Emily Lachtara (5 kills), and Caroline Methe (20 assists, 7 aces) led Southwick past visiting Commerce.

Mello’s hat trick enough for Rams

Alex Mello had a hand in all three Southwick goals, scoring one and assisting on two others to lead the Rams past visiting Lenox.
Southwick goalie Tori Richburg made four saves.
JV BOYS’ SOCCER
Southwick 8, Monson 0
Eight different players scored in Southwick’s blowout of Monson. Rams’ Eric Haynes, Jared O’Connor, Nick Doyle, Jameson Secovich, Vincent Diaz, Kacper Kisala, Caleb Flanders, and Tyler Orban each notched goals.
Haynes and O’Connor contributed two assists apiece, and Kisala, and Austin Davis each had one.
Southwick improved to 2-0.
JV GIRLS’ SOCCER
Southwick 4, Lenox 0
Freshman Emily Giancola earned a hat trick, and freshmen Hannah Gerrish (3 saves) and Maya Daley (0 saves) combined for a shutout in net as Southwick shut out Lenox.
Mackenzie Sullivan scored the other goal for the Rams. Zelida Madera had two saves, and Becca Drowhen and Maggie Sullivan had one each.
“It was just a great team effort,” Southwick JV head coach Mary Downie said. “All of the girls played well. It was a great team effort.”
