10U SOFTBALL FINALS
Game Date: 6/18/17
Kiwanis 6, Moe’s 2

It was beautiful night for softball as the Kiwanis squared off against undefeated Moe’s under the lights at Sadie Knox.
Moe’s struck first as Mia Taveras reached base on a single and ended up stealing home to score the first run of the game. The Kiwanis bounced back with three runs in the second highlighted by Julia Bonfitto’s steal of home.
Moe’s got one run back in the third as Allie Stucenski hit a ringing double to left field and ended up scoring the second run for Moe’s. The Kiwanis added two insurance runs in the fourth as Grace David and Sophia Smithies walked around base hits from Sophie Svantesson and Rachel Bonfitto. The Kiwanis closed out the scoring in the sixth as Grace Trempe walked and scored on a hit by Sophie Svantesson.
The Kiwanis’ Grace Leduc pitched three quality innings and was followed by three innings of shutout work by Shea Hurley. Mia Taveras, Camille Bruno and Grace Burke ably handled the pitching duties for Moe’s.

BASEBALL ROUNDUP
FARM DIVISION
BERKSHIRE INDUSTRIES SEASON WRAP UP
GAME DATE: 6/17/17
7Bs 8, Berkshire Industry 1

The hits for Berkshire came few and far between this day and it limited the team’s ability to score runs. Jordan Hellers & Tyrus Traska both went 2 for 2 but the rest of the team barely made a dent in 7Bs solid pitching efforts. A great moment came in the bottom 5th when Evan Gasiewski hit a towering pop-up to an infield gap, but the 7Bs pitcher made a shoestring grab to rob Evan of his hit. Evan was hustling down the 1st base line without knowing if he was out or safe since he had his head down the entire time. This time the ball bounced 7Bs way!
On the mound Jordan started the game strong allowing no more than one player to reach base at any one time in the first inning. Berkshire gave up the 8 runs over the next 3 innings but it was Audrey Amaral coming in for relief during the 5th inning finishing the season strong. Over this season Audrey has pitched in 7 different games for a total of 11 innings and gave up only 7 runs in total. Every full inning she pitched came to the conclusion via outs and not the run limit.

GAME DATE: 6/15/17
Berkshire Industries 8, 7Bs 6

Two of Berkshire’s top pitchers hit the mound and pitched well. It was Audrey Amaral showcasing her accuracy and fielding while allowing no earned runs. In the last frame she pitched 12 pitches including a play off the mound of a grounder and subsequent strong/accurate throw to first base for the put-out. Brodie Grabiec was behind the plate for the entire game and did exceptionally well working on returning the ball to the pitcher quickly and accurately.
From the offensive side of the game for Berkshire, Tyrus Traska went 3 for 3 making strong contact each time at bat. Renato Switzer notched a hit as well as Brodie getting 2 hits including a smoked ball into right field! It was a fun game to be a part of as everyone for Berkshire made it on base with the exception of Nick Madsen who hit up the middle for a usual sure hit but 7Bs pitcher made a great stab at the ball.

GAME DATE: 6/7/17
Berkshire Industries 10, 99 Restaurant 6

Unlike Berkshire’s last game, this game yielded lots of runs being scored as a result of hits and not just taking walks. Hitters Angel Villanueva, Nick Madsen & Brodie Grabiec each had a hit each but it was Tyrus Traska going 3 for 3 that really helped set the tone for our offense. A great kudos also goes for Evan Gasiewski who was told by the coaches to swing on a 3-1 count. While he missed the ball thrown for a strike each time, he swung and gave it a great effort in the strike out!
Berkshire’s defense had some ups and downs but leading the night’s rotation was Nate Jarvis. He went 2.1 innings and gave up no runs. In the second inning he struck out all 3 batters faced on 16 pitches while each looked at the third strike.
Berkshire lost to Interstate Towing 6-9 on 6/3. Berkshire’s bats never came alive save for Audrey Amaral’s solid single in the 6th and Brodie Grabiec’s monster double in the 5th. Audrey & Brodie also got it done behind the mound as Audrey started the game and gave up 2 runs and struck out 4 before hitting her max of 50 pitches. Brody hit his max of 75 and was at his best in his last inning as he gave up only 1 run and struck all 3 outs in the 4th.

GAME DATE: 5/31/17
Berkshire Industries 3, Dick’s Sporting Goods 0

In a lightning-shortened game, after only 3 complete innings, the season rubber match between Berkshire and Dick’s Sporting came down to pitching. Berkshire’s bats did not produce a single hit all game long and the only ball hit into play was by Tyrus Traska when it was caught in the outfield by Dick’s. If it had not been for the first inning where Berkshire’s first 6 hitters were walked and 3 scored, the game likely would have ended in yet another tie!
On the mound for the first 3 innings was Jordan Hellers who followed up his last solid pitching performance with a remarkable one! Over 3 innings he gave up 0 runs, 0 hits, walked 4 and struck out 9. In his last inning, he threw 9 pitches for 9 strikes. – Courtesy of Westfield Little League
