WESTFIELD – Baystate Noble Infection Control Nurse Ruth Bushey, of Southwick was recently named the Springfield Thunderbirds’ “Hometown Hero” in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Lottery.
According to the Springfield Thunderbirds, Bushey “has worked tirelessly over the last few months to ensure all three shifts at the hospital are observing the latest updates from the CDC, wearing the proper equipment and following all necessary hygiene protocols.
“She always makes herself available to address any questions and concerns, including assisting in the implementation of a UV box to disinfect hospital staff personal items.
“She is described as a team player and the glue that holds the group together.”
Bushey was taken aback by the announcement, but also expressed her gratitude for the recognition.
“It was a sweet surprise and a humbling honor to be nominated by my colleagues,” Bushey said. “I’m very grateful. The truth is that this was and always has been a true team effort.”
Bushey credited her co-workers for making it all possible.
“We have an incredible patient care team at Baystate Noble and our goals are aligned to the best patient out comes we can provide,” she said. “I am proud to say that Infection Prevention is a priority for everyone at Baystate Noble. That was true before Covid19 and is even more true now. I attribute our excellent community service during this time to that team focus.”
