SOUTHWICK – Rep. Nick Boldyga, Sen. Don Humason, and school resource officer Michael Taggart will be giving a presentation to the school committee about school district safety upgrades during the school committee meeting on Tuesday night.

According to Humason, part of the presentation will include a ceremonial check of $50,000 that Boldyga and Humason helped secure from the FY 19 budget. Taggart has been in ongoing discussions with the two local officials and requested this line item.

“We’re looking to do anything we can to help schools,” said Humason. “We wanted to give the schools the flexibility and letting them use it for what they think is best.”

The $41.88 billion FY 19 budget signed by Gov. Charlie Baker in July invests $4.91 billion towards education for kindergarten through 12th grade.

The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District also received $50,000 in the state’s FY18 budget to enhance school safety.
