Marjorie Clowes

clowes MargWESTFIELD – Marjorie Sinclair Clowes (nee Downs), 71, died early Monday April 22, 2013 after a brief stay at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Agawam, MA. The cause of death was complications from metastatic breast cancer. She was a resident of Westfield for 46 years. The daughter of Carll S. Downs and Harriet May, Marjorie was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 12, 1941.
She spent most of her childhood in Scarsdale, NY where she was raised by relatives John and Esther Sinkinson and graduated from Eastchester High School. After attending Virginia Intermont College, Marjorie worked for Mohawk Airlines as a flight attendant. Later, she worked for many years in Springfield as a receptionist at the law firms Kamberg Berman as well as Cohen Rosenthal, and as a surgery admissions attendant at Baystate Medical Center. She volunteered at Noble Hospital in Westfield and at Baystate’s Trauma Unit.
Marjorie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Donald E. Clowes and their daughter, Karen Clowes Pisano and her husband Doug and grandson Kyle. She also leaves two children by Galen Davis, Jeffrey Davis and wife Barbara of North Salem, NY and their daughter Liliana, and Patti Davis and husband Peter Gulick of New York, NY and their daughters Caroline and Sarah Wilson.
Marjorie was an avid photographer and a dedicated crafter. She enjoyed corresponding with spending time with her many friends, who will remember her grace, empathy, sensitivity and generosity of spirit. The family extends gratitude and thanks to the wonderful friends, extended family and volunteers who made Marjorie’s final days at home comfortable and filled with laughter and warm memories. Special thanks to the professionals at Baystate Hospice for their compassionate care and guidance.
Marjorie’s memorial services will be private.
