Mary A. Collins

Collins Mary 5 for PaperWESTFIELD – Mary Ann (Galat) Collins, 66, of Westfield died Monday, November 4, 2013. She was born in Holyoke on December 16, 1946 to John and Mary (Kot) Galat and has lived in Westfield for the past 30 years.
She belonged to St. Mary’s Church in Westfield and enjoyed singing in its choir. Mary volunteered at the Westfield Soup Kitchen for many years and regularly donated necessities to the Bethlehem House in Easthampton. She and her husband John enjoyed weekend getaways along the New England coast, especially to Newport, RI. Mary enjoyed browsing through antique shops, reading the local newspaper, going on shopping excursions with her daughter, attending her son’s baseball games and above all else playing with her grandchildren. She was beautiful, thoughtful and giving in every way. She loved her family, she was its center, and she always will be.
Mary leaves her husband of forty-four years John K. Collins and her children, Matthew J. Collins and his wife Joy of Belchertown and Karen A. (Collins) Fenton and her husband Christopher of Pittsfield; a sister, Irene Archambault and her husband Robert of Chicopee and three grandchildren, Katie Collins and Nathaniel and Lucas Fenton. She was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and John Galat and a sister Jane Galat.
The funeral will be Friday, November 8, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. from Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church in Westfield at  10:30 a.m. with burial to follow in St. Jerome’s Cemetery in Holyoke. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Donations in Mary’s name may be made to the Sister Caritas Cancer Center at Mercy Medical Center, 271 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104.
