Mary G. (Glynn) Eaton

WESTFIELD – Mary G. (Glynn) Eaton, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her closest loved ones. She was born in Westfield to the late John and Anna (Mahoney) Glynn. She graduated from Saint Mary’s High School and received her bachelor’s and teaching degrees from Westfield State University.

Following college, she lived and taught in California, Japan, and Germany, and later was an elementary school teacher in Westfield for many years, retiring in 2001. She found immense happiness in traveling domestically and internationally, visiting countries such as Korea, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, and Turkey, as well as numerous countries in Europe. She was an avid reader, and she also had an affinity for listening to talk radio and discussing current events and politics. Most recently and above all, she adored spending time with her children and granddaughters.

Mary was struck with a sudden illness in 2002 and was told she may have only a few months left to live. She refused to give up, and for several years following the onset of her illness, her strength and resolve carried her through challenging sessions of physical and occupational therapy to simply relearn basic physical skills. She continued to experience various health setbacks in the years that followed, which she repeatedly overcame due to her tireless efforts, spirit, and determination, which will always inspire those who knew her.

The memories of Mary will be cherished by her loving children, Cliff Eaton of Albion, R.I. and Christine E. Callahan and her husband Daniel of Brooklyn, N.Y., a brother Thomas Glynn and his wife Carol of Westfield and their children, Adam and Hannah, and her adored granddaughters, Caroline and Clara. Her brother, John “Jack” Glynn, who was a consistent source of support and humor to her, predeceased her last year. Her family would like to thank her close friend of many years, Mary Lou Zagrany, for the unwavering loyalty, help, and care she provided to Mary over their long friendship. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 11AM in the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd. Westfield. A visiting hour will precede the service from 10-11AM in the funeral home. Donations can be made in her honor to Highland Valley Elder Services, 320 Riverside Drive #B, Northampton, MA 01062. www.firtionadams.com
