12:51 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Meadow Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle traveling at 55 mph in a 35 mph zone, the vehicle did not immediately stop but pulled over on Main Street, was stopped and the officer reports the operator appeared to be intoxicated, a routine check revealed the man’s license had been suspended, the man failed a field sobriety test, Shane A. Mineau, 17, of 89 Mechanic St., was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, operating with a suspended license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police and for speeding in violation of special regulations;
12:58 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without lights, the car was stopped and the officer reports the operator appeared to be intoxicated, the woman failed a field sobriety test, Danielle A. Collette, 25, of 10 Judith St., Holyoke, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a motor vehicle light violation;
7:50 a.m.: vandalism, Day Avenue, a caller reports vandalism to his vehicle, the responding officer reports the caller said that a window of his vehicle was broken overnight to gain access while it was parked in his driveway and a laptop computer and about $20 in cash was stolen;
8:58 a.m.: arrest, Westfield High School, Montgomery Road, an officer was detailed to attempt to execute a warrant for a boy believed to be at the high school, the officer reports he went to the school and found the school resource officer had the suspect in custody, Avery Girard, 18, of 37 Mechanic St., was arrested on the 2012 warrant;
9:58 a.m.: a caller reports neighbors are engaged in a verbal argument and one is armed with a machete, the responding officer reports he was told that a resident had observed what appeared to be a disturbance between a man and a woman and attempted to intervene, the officer reports that when the man arguing with his wife observed that the peacemaker appeared to have a lockblade knife in his pocket he went into his residence and returned with a samurai sword, the woman implored the officer not to hurt her husband who she said suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, the man was transported to Noble Hospital;
12:16 p.m.: fire, Vincent Drive, a caller reports a resident is burning and the neighborhood is filling with smoke, the responding fire captain reports the resident was burning twigs and was advised of the pertinent city ordinances, the resident extinguished the fire;
12:46 p.m.: animal complaint, Franklin Street, a supervisory officer reports an animal complaint, the director of animal control operations responded and transported two dogs to the municipal animal shelter;
12:46 p.m.: animal complaint, Franklin Street, the director of animal control operations reports that he took custody of a dog which had been left in a yard without water or shelter from the sun, the dog was transported to the municipal animal shelter;
4:51 p.m.: breaking and entering, Edward Street, a resident came to the station to report his vehicle was entered overnight and his wallet was stolen, the responding officer reports the complainant said that his unlocked vehicle was entered and a small amount of cash and a credit card was stolen, the man said that the credit card had been used;
5:10 p.m.: lost property, Elm Street, a North Carolina resident reports via the online reporting option that when she visited an Elm Street restaurant she inadvertently left her wallet there;
5:24 p.m.: disturbance, King Street, a caller reports two men are engaged in a fistfight, the responding officer reports two men were found but they were not engaged in fisticuffs, the men were advised to deal with their issues verbally;
5:45 p.m.: fire, The Arbors Trailer Park, 13 Klondike Ave., a caller reports a fire under a trailer, the responding firefighters report the fire was quickly knocked down, firefighters report the fire began as an electrical malfunction in heating tape wrapped around water pipes under the trailer;
7:04 p.m.: weather complaint, Wild Flower Circle, a caller reports his house was struck by lightning, the responding firefighters report no evidence of lightning striking the house was found;
7:08 p.m.: animal complaint, Indian Ridge Road, a caller reports he has taken custody of a stray dog, the responding animal control officer reports he transported the dog to the municipal animal shelter;
7:18 p.m.: weather complaint, Gold Street, a caller reports her chimney was struck by lightning, the responding firefighters report the chimney exploded apparently as a result of a lightning strike, no fire was found but a G&E worker who responded subsequently reports finding smoke in the attic, the returning firefighters report parts of a wall and ceiling were pulled down to allow access to a hot spot which was doused.
