WESTFIELD -Two people were displaced Jan. 3 when a fire tore through their Meadow Street home.

The house, located a few feet from Rally’s Bar at the corner of Meadow and Dubois streets, caught fire around 4:30 p.m. Friday. A firefighter at the scene said two people escaped without injury but a pet dog did not survive.

Westfield Fire and Police responded to the blaze at the two-story house and blocked traffic in both directions on Meadow Street.

Onlookers gathered across the street to watch the fire.

Firefighters contained the blaze and vented the attic where smoke continued to pour out after the flames were knocked down.
