Meyers Bros slip past OMG; Westfield Bank overwhelms Richards Jewelers

Meyers Brothers 9, OMG 8

Meyers Brothers scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to capture a hard fought game against OMG.
Meyers Brothers started fast and was out to an 8-2 lead before OMG mounted a comeback to tie the game in the top of the sixth. Caitlyn Arooth started the inning with a base hit and promptly stole second base and then scored on a game winning hit from Hayley Krupienski.
Sophie Svantesson pitched four strong innings and Gianna Capua pitched two for the victorious Meyers Brothers.
The hitting stars for Meyers were: Caitlyn Arooth, who reached base four times and scored three runs, and Hayley Krupienski, who had a double along with her game-winning single. She also scored a run.  Mia Houser scored two runs, Gianna Capua, Shannon Wall and Charlie White all contributed a run scored.
Emma Callan threw three innings in the longest outing of her career and Sydney LaPanne pitched the remainder of the game for OMG. Julia Bonfitto scored two runs, including the game-tying run in the top of the sixth and Emma Nelson, who reached base four times and scored one run to pace the offense. Westfield Bank 14, Richards Jewelers 5

It took a few innings but Westfield Bank’s high-flying offense got untracked and scored 12 unanswered runs to erase a 5-2 deficit and pull out a big win. The big hit in the game was Marlow Murphy’s bases-clearing triple. Murphy also added a double to finish the day with four RBIs and two runs scored.  Leadoff hitter Grace LeDuc was on base five times and scored five runs to lead the charge for Westfield Bank. Savannah Beach also reached base four times with two extra base hits and a run scored.
Julia Bonfitto pitched an inning in her debut at 14U and Camiile Bruno threw three strong innings and Allie Stucenski continued to confound the opposition with three shutout innings.
For Richards Jewelers, Ali LaPanne battled through six innings and Lexi Sanchez closed it out. Ciara Toporowski paced the offense, reaching base three times, including a double and a run scored while Lexi Sanchez reached base three times and scored a run. Rachel Bonfitto, Grace Trempe, and Jahneesa Armsted all scored a run apiece to finish the scoring for Richards. – Courtesy of Westfield Little League Softball 

FUTURES COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE UPDATE:
The highly-anticipated, three-game showdown between the Westfield Starfires and first-place Worcester Bravehearts hit a bump in the road. For the second straight night, Thursday, the “series” was postponed due to rain. The two teams were scheduled to play the third of the three games Friday night in Worcester.
