WORCESTER – The Westfield Starfires finally appear to be gaining a foothold in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
After crawling to an 0-4 record, Westfield took their first steps toward achieving their season-long goals with consecutive wins this week. The Bombers, despite having their 2-game win streak snapped Wednesday, won their third game in four tries Thursday, upending the Worcester Bravehearts on the road 6-1 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
Hometown native Sean Murphy and Christian Walsh homered for Westfield. The Starfires duo combined for five RBIs in the game.
Westfield pitcher Jack Fox, who suffered a tough-luck loss in the season opener, recorded six Ks and allowed just one hit in five scoreless innings.
The Worcester Bravehearts fell to 3-3.
The road trip continues for the Starfires (3-5) on Friday when they travel to Nashua, N.H., to take on the Silver Knights (2-4).
