New Administrator of Special Services to be named following Garand resignation

Dr. Adam Garand, has stepped down as administrator of special services and will be returning to the classroom as a special education teacher at Westfield High School.

WESTFIELD – Dr. Adam Garand, Administrator of Special Services since 2016 has resigned the position for personal reasons, according to Westfield Public Schools Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski. He said Garand will be returning to the classroom as a special education teacher at Westfield High School beginning in January.
At Monday’s School Committee meeting, Human Resources Director Paula Ceglowski reported that the opening was posted and there are two finalists for the position, and she hoped to present one to the School Committee for a vote by the end of the week.
The finalists for the position are Irene Ryan, who currently serves as Special Services Program Supervisor in the Westfield district, and Martha von Mering, who is Special Education Director for the Springfield Public Schools.
Ceglowski said neither candidate would be able to start immediately, as they both currently hold positions. She said Eileen Jachym, a former principal of North Middle School and special education supervisor in Westfield who now works for the state department of education, will serve as interim administrator until the position is filled and a new person is in place.
