New mayor, elected officials to be sworn in Monday

Mayor-Elect Donald F. Humason, Jr. (WNG File Photo)WESTFIELD – Westfield Technical Academy will host the inauguration of Mayor-elect Donald F. Humason Jr., and the swearing in of elected city councilors, school committee, Municipal Light Board members, and an Athenaeum trustee Jan.  6 at 9:30 a.m. in the school auditorium.
The inauguration will begin with a prelude by the Westfield High School and Westfield Technical Academy bands. American Legion Post 124 will serve as color guard, and Acting Mayor Ralph J. Figy will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Westfield Intermediate School student Matthew Bussell will then sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Pastor David Young of the Westfield Evangelical Free Church will give the invocation.
City Clerk Karen M. Fanion will administer the oath of office to school committee members-elect, MLB members-elect, to Kathleen A. Knapik, the new Athenaeum trustee; and to councilors-elect.
After all the others have been sworn in, Figy will invite Humason and his family to the stage for the inauguration.
The combined high school bands will then perform a musical selection, followed by an inaugural address by Mayor Humason.
The Westfield High School Show Choir will sing “America the Beautiful,” followed by a benediction by Father Dan Pacholec of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament church.
Bo Sullivan, a member of the Inaugural Committee, along with Figy and Fanion, will thank everyone for coming, after which the bands will play the postlude.
Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served.
Later in the day, a Special City Council meeting is scheduled at 5 p.m. in City Council Chambers, Room 207 in City Hall. The first order of business will be the election of a Council President for 2020.
The only unfinished business listed on the agenda is the appropriation of $300,000 from the Community Preservation Account to the CPA Cross Street Playground account.
