Newton E. Lyons, Jr.

FEEDING HILLS – Newton E. Lyons, Jr., 82, of Feeding Hills and formerly of Southwick, beloved husband for 42 years of the late Rose (Bessette) Lyons, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2020, at his home. Born in Westfield, MA on November 16, 1937, son of the late Newton E. Lyons, Sr. and Edith (Long) Lyons, he was raised in Granby, CT and had lived in Southwick, MA for many years before moving to Feeding Hills, MA to be closer to his family a year ago. Newton worked in the petroleum industry as a truck driver for Texaco and Getty and after his retirement, he worked for many years at Southwick Acres and Sodom Mountain Campgrounds in Southwick. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR races and cheering for his favorite driver Jeff Gordon, gardening around his home, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. Newton and his son Raymond played horseshoes for many years and they won several Connecticut State Championship Tournaments. Newton never lost his ties to Granby, CT. He was a member of the Granby Grange #5 where he played Pitch for many years and he was a member of Pilgrim Covenant Church while growing up.

Most of all, Newton will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family. He leaves ten children, Raymond Lyons of Jonesport, ME, Donald Renaud and his wife Barbara of Feeding Hills, MA, Kenneth P. Renaud of Palm Coast, FL, Donna Renaud of Chicopee, MA, Lorraine Thurston and her husband Lee of Corinth, VT, Doris Minkler of Palm Coast, FL, Delia Fleury of West Lebanon, NH, Diane McCray and her husband Robert Crawford of Chicopee, MA, Marlene West of Newport, NH, and Anna Lyons of Brownsville, VT; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, William and Horace Lyons; two grandsons, Corey Bradford and Jonathan Lyons; and a son-in-law, Dalton West, Jr.

His family will receive friends on Thursday, September 17, 12 Noon-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT. Burial will follow in Granby Cemetery, Granby, CT. Memorial donations may be made to the Granby Grange #5, 212 North Granby Rd., Granby, CT 06035.
