WEST SPRINGFIELD- The Cancer House of Hope will host the third seminar in the ‘No Toxins, Please’ series Friday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The lecture will feature University of Massachusetts School of Public Health professor Zhenhua Liu, who will talk about making good food choices to lower the risk of colorectal and breast cancers. The event is free and open for the public to attend.
Susan Dibilo, who frequents the monthly meetings, has both professional and personal experience with the cause and effects of cancer.
“I am a retired nurse and educator who did a combination of clinical work and educations,” said Dibilo, “I am also a survivor of breast cancer and I am currently battling Parkinson’s disease.”
In the previous two seminars, the discussion revolved around eating organic foods that are not exposed to pesticides and ensuring that the water one drinks is not contaminated with cancer causing substances.
“The important thing to do is to stop doing what gave you cancer in the first place,” Dibilo said, “The toxins in question cause the genetic mutations that lead to cancer. Why take in those toxins with every meal or every breath of air?”
No Toxins, Please meets once a month for these seminars, however there will be no class in December. Other topics that will be discussed in future gatherings include avoiding cancer causing agents in the air, substances in cosmetics, and toxins in everyday cleaning products.
Having gone through the process of fighting cancer and keeping it away, Dibilo will be present to give her own perspective as well.
“It’s hard to make the necessary changes because you’ve probably been doing it all your life,” she said.
