Car dealers petition Southwick board

SOUTHWICK – The Southwick Select Board did not vote last night on a reissuance of a Class II license for Borgetti Auto Sales.
The business, owned by Vincent Borgetti, is proposed for the site formerly occupied by DJ’s Auto Sales at 532 College Highway.
Selectman Russ Fox said he had a few concerns with the plans, which were approved by the Southwick Planning Board after several revisions. His main concern was with the number of cars proposed for the property. Borgetti is requesting an increase from the current 15 cars to 30 cars.
“I have a big concern about increasing the cars by that amount,” said Fox.
Borgetti said the plans were revamped several times to get the most cars, while keeping the property attractive. He said if they hold him to 15 cars, his business would not survive.
“With the economy the way it is, I don’t think I could survive with 15 cars,” said Borgetti.
Russ said he wanted to take a week to think about the proposal and what it would look like for the community.
“I don’t know if I feel comfortable increasing to 30,” said Fox. “I think the town is more than being served.”
The Board agreed to take up the vote next Monday.
The Southwick Select Board also approved a reissuance of a license for Complete Auto, Inc. last night.
Located at 797 College Highway, the former location of Carfinders, Complete Auto is owned by Joel Fairlace and Daren Pace, who own a business in Feeding Hills.
“We are currently doing business in Feeding Hills and our lease is up,” said Fairlace. “We would like to buy property and would like to do business in Southwick.”
Police Lt. David Ricardi, who is in charge of licensure for the department, told the board he found no problems when researching the business.
“We’re glad to have them aboard,” said Ricardi.
