WESTFIELD – Although the annual Mayor’s Easter Egg Hunt was canceled, the Easter Bunny will make an appearance in Westfield this weekend.
In fact, the Easter Bunny will appear throughout the city April 11 as he tours Westfield, waving to families from the Westfield Fire Department’s ladder truck from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. during “Operation Bunny Trail.”
“Jim Wiggs, our emergency management director, happens to know the Easter Bunny personally and he told him he wanted to visit Westfield,” said Mayor Donald F. Humason Jr.
Humason said because of social distancing, the tour will not be a formal parade and the Easter Bunny will not be stopping along the route, which will zig-zag around the city.
Humason said the Easter Bunny, escorted by police and fire personnel, will start Operation Bunny Trail from fire headquarters on Broad Street. He will continue north over the bridge to Union Street to Springfield Road. He will proceed up East Mountain Road to North Road, taking a left onto Southampton Road
They will then head south to Arch/Lockhouse Road to Cabot Road. They will then use Cabot and Russellville to get to Montgomery Road and follow that back to the bridge. They will then travel south to Franklin Street, then Russell Road to Bates, and travel down to Kensington. The bridge will be crossed, and City View to City View will used to get to Southwick Road. The Bunny will take Tannery and Shaker roads to Little River Road to East Main Street. They will then use Noble Street to East and West Silver streets to Western Avenue and return to the station via Court Street.
Humason said with families having to change their plans for Easter, he is happy that the Easter Bunny will bring some spring cheer to the community. He added that the candy-filled eggs normally used during the Egg Hunt will be distributed to families through the school lunch Grab & Go program.
