ENGLEWOOD, FLA. – Vassar College’s Fiona Waters scored with 45 seconds left in the third overtime to lift the Brewers to a 15-14 women’s lacrosse win over Westfield State in Englewood, Fla. on Tuesday evening.
Westfield ran out to a 5-0 lead in the opening eight and a half minutes of the game behind goals from five different players.
From there, Vassar came all the way back to tie the score at 8-8 at the half.
Westfield trailed 14-12 and needed to score the final two goals in regulation time, getting markers from Hayley Mate and Marissa Nimeskern to tie the score at 14-all and force the extra sessions.
Westfield got 15 saves from Maria Woodall in the loss. The Owls are now 2-2 on the season, while Vassar improves to 1-2.
The Owls will take the next two days off from competition after playing back to back games, before completing their three-game Florida set with a match against Nazareth (NY) College on Friday.– Courtesy of Westfield State University Sports
