Owls’ women’s soccer remain undefeated

SALEM – Kayley Miller (Ludlow, MA) scored two goals to lead the undefeated Westfield State women’s soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Salem State on Saturday.
Westfield State improved to 12-0-1 on the season and 4-0-0 in the MASCAC , while Salem State slipped to 6-4-1, 1-2-1.
The Owls got on the board first when Miller rifled the ball into the back of the net from the top right corner of the box at the 23:05 mark that gave Westfield State a 1-0 lead.
The visitors carried that lead into halftime and used a four-goal outburst to surge ahead in the second half. Westfield State struck with three goals in the span of 1:48 to put the game away. Ashley Bovat (Westfield, MA) scored an unassisted goal at 62:47, and Miller scored her second goal on a penalty kick 30 seconds later. he flurry continued when Ashleigh Chretien (North Attleboro, MA) netted a goal in the 64th minute to put the Owls up 4-0. Colie Sambrook (Naugatuck, CT) added a final break-away goal to make it 5-0 in the 88th minute.
Salem State’s Rachel Ledbetter (Dracut, MA) stopped nine shots while Westfield State’s Jess Habif (Holliston, MA) had eight saves saves. Nicky Stasz (Easthampton, MA) finished in goal for the Owls and made three saves.
Westfield held a huge 18-7 advantage in shots for the game, including a 9-2 edge in the first half.
The Vikings next game will be at Wheaton College on Wednesday at 4:00 PM. The Owls won’t play again until next Saturday at 6:00 PM at home against MCLA
