Pedolzky shines through on rainy day

NORTHAMPTON – It may have rained yet again Monday, but Chandler Pedolzky and the Westfield High School girls soccer team shined.
Pedolzky scored one goal in each half to help Westfield kick past Northampton 2-1 Monday.
In the first half, Pedolzky took a pass from Gigi Badger and slipped past the last line of defense for Northampton out near the top of the box, dribbling past a defender who fell to her knees to avoid a fallen goalie. Pedolzky dribbled in untouched an easily found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead with 12:30 remaining in the first half.
Northampton tied it up in the second half, but Westfield responded with another goal from Pedolzky with about 3:30 remaining in the game.
Adrianna Arona made two saves for Westfield.

Hess scores for Rams
Monson 2, Southwick 1

Jillian Hess scored the lone Southwick goal. Jordyn Demyon assisted. Rams’ goalie Hannah Gerrish made seven saves.
In JV action, Southwick nipped Monson 1-0. Sophia Andrade scored on a direct kick. Sydney Demyon (7 saves) earned a shutout.

FIELD HOCKEY
Pompi nets game-winner
Southwick 4, Turners Falls 3

Alyssa Pompi scored on a quick shot into the circle with 33 seconds remaining in regulation to keep Southwick unbeaten in league play.
Devan Fox assisted on the game-winning goal.
Pompi completed the game with two goals and two assists. Emily Martin also had two goals.
Southwick goalie Clare Stratton finished with eight saves.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Rams sweep
Southwick def. Renaissance 25-16, 25-16, 25-4

Kayla Andrade (4 digs, 2 aces, 3 kills, 5 assists) and Kaitlyn Haseltine (2 digs, 2 aces, 2 kills, 8 assists) each put together nice all-around efforts in Southwick’s victory.
Rams’ Allie Methe (5 aces, 1 kill) and Emily Buchter (1 ace) each had four digs, Jen Motsko (2 digs) racked up eight aces, and Sarah Cerone (1 dig) delivered five kills and three blocks.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Westfield boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Bay Sate Invitational in Northfield.
The weather was cold and rainy for the girls race but turned to mostly cloudy and pleasant for the boys, and as it did the course got muddier and muddier with each of the six races. Still, the Bombers turned out some of their best performances of the season on one of the hardest courses in Western Mass.
In the girls’ Ken Caouette “C” race, Margaret Philpott (63rd, 23:27.37), Grace Kuhn (101st, 25:45.63), Ella Mastroianni (105th, 26:54.54), and Nicole Servetnik (111th, 27:24.86) led the way for Westfield.
In the boys’ Scott Burdick “C” race, Bombers’ Kaleb Cree (71st, 18:29.25), Raphael Morganelli (162nd, 20:16.08), Nick Stathatos (165th, 20:23.06), Nick Duncan (172nd, 20:33.42), Antonio Phaneuf (176th, 20:40.71), and Aidan Welch (204th, 22:52.75) made their mark.
