Planning Board approves SkyBox kitchen request

SOUTHWICK – During Tuesday night’s Planning Board meeting, the board voted unanimously in favor of approving the addition of a kitchen for the Skybox on 23 Point Grove Rd.

Planning Board Chairman Michael Doherty noted that the decision was straight forward.

“It’s just exactly how it is now, just with a kitchen,” said Doherty.

Since 2013, the SkyBox has been strictly a bar that served alcohol with only chips for food. Recently, Patrick and Natalie Lynch, the owners of the SkyBox, had the opportunity to expand their business and were looking at using a 200 sq. ft. area in the establishment that is currently part of the bar area, but is dead space.

The Lynch’s have owned the SkyBox for more than 10 years and were granted a temporary permit by the town in 2009 to construct a kitchen. They never moved forward due to financial reasons and in 2013 the food permit was pulled.

After the last meeting with the Lynch’s on September 25, the Planning Board asked them to make some minor tweaks, including making sure that all 44 parking spaces in the lot are the proper length and width and are adequate.

“I don’t think there’s a negative to it,” said Doherty. “I think they did a good job.”
