Emergency response and crime report

8:36 a.m.: found property, Holyoke Road, a detail officer reports finding a hypodermic needle on Holyoke Road, the needle was transported to the station for safe disposal;
9:35 a.m.: arrest, Delmont Avenue, a patrol officer reports he encountered a vehicle which fit the description of the vehicle shoplifting suspects had fled in a few days earlier and observed that the occupants fit the description of the suspects, the car was stopped and the operator’s license was found to have been suspended, the operator was identified as a suspect by the store’s security video, Willie J. Jiles Jr., 57, of 20 Powell Ave., Springfield, was arrested for shoplifting by concealing merchandise (a third offense) and for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license;
11:16 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Main Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without a valid inspection sticker and stopped the car, the operator’s license was found to have been revoked as a habitual traffic offender, Shandoah Rose Mason, 30, of 145 Main St., was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as a habitual traffic offender and for vehicle operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection sticker;
1:28 p.m.: assist resident, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., a resident came to the station to surrender his license to carry firearms and his firearms as ordered by the chief of police;
1:45 p.m.: fraud, Edgewood Apartments, 134 Union St., a resident came to the station to report that she has discovered fraudulent debits to her checking account, the responding officer reports the victim said that she had left her wallet in the mall and the account may have been compromised before it was recovered;
2:17 p.m.: recreational vehicle complaint, South Meadow Road, a caller complains of teenaged children riding a motor bike in the area, the responding officer reports he spoke with the children and advised them that their parents would be liable to a citation if they continued to disturb the neighbors, the youths agreed to park the motorbike;
4:14 p.m.: officer wanted, Paper Street, a resident came to the station to complain of unauthorized use of his credit card by his former girlfriend, the responding officer reports the man said that he had previously allowed the woman to use his card, he said that she had stored the pertinent information in a cellphone application and has used it after their break up, the man did not seek to pursue criminal charges but wants the fraudulent use documented to bolster his application for a protective order;
4:15 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
7:32 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, an officer reports he observed unusual movements of a motor vehicle and recognized the operator, a check revealed the operator to be unlicensed and the vehicle was stopped, the officer reports he observed marijuana and a bong in the car which the operator said did not belong to him and asked the officer to take custody of, the owner of the vehicle came to the scene to take custody of his car;
10:29 p.m.: suspicious activity, a detective reports he observed a known party following teenaged girls on Elm Street, see story in the Thursday edition of The Westfield News.
